About Hope United In Giving

Hope United In Giving is a 501(c)(3) organization focused on support and recognition of the primary caregivers of traumatically brain injured soldiers currently being treated in VA Polytrauma Centers.
As the primary caregiver, you may be far from home and far from your support system. And you may be away for a while. VA Polytrauma Centers have the best care for your loved one. He/she will have all needs for daily treatment, therapy and personal care. But who do you lean on? Who is there for you? Where do you turn to learn these new terms you are hearing?
“HUG” is here for you! We know what you are experiencing. As a group, we send handmade utilitarian items such as tote bags, sewing kits, caddies, personal items, pampering gifts and our famous tissue packet with a "HUG" logo tissue cover. to help you along your stay. We also send donated personal items such as toothbrushes, combs, soaps, shavers, etc… when available.

HUG would like to thank Vicki Wilkinson of Pennsylvania for her generosity.

She has made many gifts for our caregivers and for the patients.  She has been helping us for quite some time sewing lap quilts, totes and other items as well as sending supplies for our crafting and sewing.

This month she went above and beyond.  Many will benefit from her labor of love!

Take a look at what she has done!

Thank You Vicki!  Your kindness is greatly appreciated!

It is amazing to see how generous our board members have been!

Loretta Theriot has donated many, many wonderful items for the children of our primary caregivers.  Kids go very often to see their parent that is hospitalized and during the summer they go much more frequently.  If you think about it, the kids are caregivers  too!!  They have to take on more chores, help keep their parent motivated, they can help with physical therapy, feeding, read to them, etc, etc  So I think they should be included just as much as the adults.

Here are a few things she donated:

Following suit, Patricia Spence shipped two large boxes of supplies, gifts and personal items!  We were so excited to see so many things that will allow us to help the caregivers for quite a long time!

Here are just a few things she donated:

Carol Broussard came over while we were making the Floral Stationery Packs and helped us sew them.  When we started looking for pens to include, we didn't have any nice enough to put with the stationery.  Carol immediately went shopping and bought more than enough to insert in each pack.

Additionally, CPL Systems has covered all of our shipping costs!!!

Thank you so much for making it possible for HUG to support our caregivers!  It's sure that they will know someone is there for them through your generosity!

Bill would help wounded, homeless, women, and rural veterans and family caregivers
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today the U.S. Senate voted 98-0 to pass the Caregivers and Veterans Omnibus Health Services Act of 2009, a sweeping reform bill sponsored by Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee Chairman Daniel K. Akaka (D-Hawaii) for wounded warriors and the families who care for them.  S. 1963 merges two veterans’ health bills which passed the Committee with unanimous bipartisan support this summer, only to be blocked from a floor vote by a single Senator until today.
“Today the Senate reaffirmed that caring for veterans is a cost of war, a cost wounded warriors and their family members should not be forced to pay alone,” said Akaka.  “I applaud my colleagues for recognizing the urgent need to pass this bill, and I thank the many veterans, veterans’ organizations, and concerned Americans who pushed for today’s vote.”   As passed by the Senate, this bill would, among many other things:

  • Establish an unprecedented permanent program to train, support, and assist the caregivers of disabled veterans;
  • Improve care for veterans in rural areas, reduce veteran homelessness, improve care for women veterans; and
  • Improve VA’s ability to recruit and retain a strong workforce and provide quality assurance at its medical facilities.

Over 20 veteran and military organizations recently called for passage of the bill’s caregiver provisions.  That letter is available here

CPL Systems President and CEO Luke Conner heard about Hope United in Giving earlier this year.  When the time came for CPL to consider charitable contributions, he put HUG on the list.  CPL contributed a significant amount.  This donation alone will allow us to operate in full mode.

Feel free to visit their website to learn about CPL Systems and see what they are doing.  Their website is located at www.cpl-systems.com

Pictured below is Loretta Theriot, HUG Director of Fundraising and Donations, recieving this generous contribution from Skye Heldenbrand, CPL System's office manager.

In addition to their financial contribution, CPL has also offered to pay for all of our shipping costs using Fed Ex.  We will now have the ability to support and recognize our caregivers on a more regular basis.

Our appreciation for these gifts is truly tremendous!  Our gratitude is enormous!
